In a resounding victory for diversity and academic excellence, three esteemed scholars from the University of Pennsylvania, Christopher Bourne, Ph.D., Marco Carpenter, Ph.D., and Lorianna Colon, Ph.D., have been announced as recipients of the 2023 Postdoctoral Diversity Enrichment Program by the renowned Burroughs Wellcome Fund (BWF). Hailing from diverse backgrounds and fields of study, Bourne, Carpenter, and Colon have distinguished themselves as leaders in their respective disciplines. Their tireless dedication to research and unwavering commitment to fostering inclusivity have garnered widespread acclaim within the academic community. With this prestigious award, they aim to further their groundbreaking work while championing diversity and representation in the sciences. Bourne, Carpenter, and Colon are Penn Provost Postdoctoral Fellows in the Perelman School of Medicine, with Carpenter and Colon having secondary appointments at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

The Postdoctoral Diversity Enrichment Program (PDEP) provides $60,000 over three years to support the career development activities for underrepresented minority postdoctoral fellows in a degree-granting institution in the United States or Canada whose training and professional development are guided by mentors committed to helping them advance to stellar careers in biomedical or medical research.
