Alison McCarthy, Penn Provost Postdoctoral Fellow named to the National Postdoctoral Association (NPA) Postdoc Council.

Alison McCarthy, Ph.D. Provost Postdoctoral Fellow in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences has been named to the National Postdoctoral Association’s (NPA) Postdoc Council. Dr. McCarthy will serve on the 2023-2024 Postdoc Council for the two-year terms of service beginning on January 1, 2024.

The Postdoc Council serves to elevate the voice and input of postdocs in the implementation of initiatives by the NPA. Postdocs serving on the Postdoc Council will have the opportunity to further develop their skills in committee work, leadership, networking, strategic planning, team building, etc.

Alison McCarthy is a Penn Provost Postdoctoral Fellow for Academic Diversity in SEAS’s Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics department. Dr. McCarthy received her Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from The College of New Jersey in 2017, and a doctoral degree in Materials Science and Engineering from Stony Brook University in 2022 with a joint affiliation at Brookhaven National Laboratory. Her graduate research focused on the design and architecture of electrodes in lithium-ion batteries and beyond lithium-ion battery systems. Her postdoctoral research focuses on studying lithium metal mechanics within a battery. At Penn, she works with the Penn Postdoctoral Association advocacy committee and serves on the executive board as their NPA liaison.
