Penn Postdocs in the News: Alexander Sailer, Humboldt Fellow, Advances Photopharmacology Research at Penn

Alexander Sailer, Ph.D., Alexander von Humboldt Feodor Lynen Fellow, explores light-controlled signaling in the Department of Chemistry at Penn.
Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, March 1, 2023
Dr. Alexander Sailer, a postdoctoral researcher from Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU), joined the University of Pennsylvania as part of the prestigious Feodor Lynen Research Fellowship Programme from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. He is currently hosted by Professor Dirk Trauner in Penn’s Department of Chemistry, where his research lies at the cutting edge of chemical biology and photopharmacology.
Dr. Sailer’s work focuses on the cAMP signaling pathway, a central component of cellular communication, with the goal of developing light-activated modulators to precisely control biological processes. His research into forskolin derivatives and adenyl cyclase modulation has broad implications for neuroscience, pharmacology, and therapeutic development.
At Penn, Dr. Sailer joins a vibrant international community of postdoctoral scholars. The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation’s Feodor Lynen Fellowship supports postdocs from Germany conducting research abroad, fostering collaboration between global institutions and leading scientists.
Dr. Sailer previously conducted research in the Department of Pharmacy at LMU. At Penn, he brings his expertise to a highly interdisciplinary environment that merges synthetic chemistry, biology, and pharmacological innovation.
We are proud to host Dr. Sailer at Penn and celebrate this recognition of his impactful research through one of Germany’s most distinguished fellowships.
