Research Topic
Uncovering the Specific Mitochondrial Abnormalities in Mucopolysaccharidosis Type VII (MPS VII) to Develop Targeted Therapies for Lysosomal Storage Diseases
Shahreen Anmin
Bio
Dr. Shahreen Anmin is a postdoctoral fellow at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), where she focuses on the role of mitochondria in lysosomal storage diseases, particularly mucopolysaccharidosis type VII (MPS VII), also known as Sly syndrome. With a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Regina, Canada, Dr. Anmin is dedicated to uncovering the specific abnormalities responsible for the mitochondrial phenotype in MPS VII patients.
During her graduate training, Dr. Anmin worked on creating a double knockout genetic interaction map, which laid the groundwork for her current research. At CHOP, she is developing a proteomic and genetic mitochondrial interactome map for MPS VII, aiming to use this as a benchmark for other lysosomal storage diseases. Dr. Anmin is also a Diversity Fellow, advocating for equity in research and fostering inclusive environments for underrepresented trainees. She believes that diversity in science is essential for innovation and solving complex scientific puzzles.
Dr. Anmin’s work at CHOP not only advances the understanding of mitochondrial dysfunction in lysosomal storage diseases but also promotes diversity and inclusion in scientific research.
