Bio
Marilyn Baffoe-Bonnie was most recently a predoctoral fellow at the NIH’s Department of Bioethics and NHGRI, focusing on health disparities. Her research examines the impact of emerging biotechnologies and social forces on health outcomes for marginalized populations, investigating how clinical interactions exacerbate health disparities. As a Penn Provost Postdoctoral Fellow, she plans to secure a book contract for her dissertation, publish peer-reviewed articles, and conduct collaborative research on informed consent for genetic therapies and the ongoing care needs of patients post-gene therapy. Additionally, she will explore the social and ethical issues in aesthetic medicine, aiming to promote patient safety and education. Marilyn’s research is guided by theories from history and medical sociology, aiming to produce high-impact studies that address the complex interplay between science and society.
