Bio

Dr. April J. Ancheta, PhD, RN is a Supporting Promising Academic Researchers (SPAR) Fellow in the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) Bridge to Faculty Program in the Division of Adolescent Medicine and a former fellow of the Penn Medicine National Clinician Scholars Program. She is also an Associate Fellow at the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics. Her research focuses on the impacts of school health services and school nurses on adolescent mental health, particularly among sexual and gender minority (SGM) youth and adolescents navigating multiple marginalized identities.

Dr. Ancheta’s work lies at the intersection of education and health, combining quantitative and qualitative methods to examine how school-based supports can reduce health disparities and address the growing mental health needs of youth. She is also an Affiliate Trainee at CHOP’s PolicyLab and a former Leadership Education in Adolescent Health (LEAH) Fellow.

She received her PhD in Nursing from Columbia University, an MS in Health Policy from the University of Pennsylvania, and a BS in Nursing from Rutgers University. In addition to her research training, Dr. Ancheta has worked clinically in inpatient surgical care, experience that continues to inform her interest in policy-relevant, translational research to improve adolescent health.
