About

The Penn postdoctoral community is invited to attend Building a Clean Energy Transition Without Leaving Communities Behind, part of the Penn Climate Seminar Series, featuring Heather Boushey, Professor of Practice at the Kleinman Center for Energy Policy and former Chief Economist to President Biden’s Investing in America Cabinet.

Hosted by Penn Climate, the Kleinman Center for Energy Policy, and the Penn Center for Science, Sustainability, and the Media, this conversation will examine how the United States can pursue a clean energy transition while ensuring shared economic growth and community resilience. The discussion will explore the economic risks of climate change, the opportunities created by decarbonization, and the need to move beyond outdated policy frameworks that frame climate action as a tradeoff between costs and emissions.

Dr. Boushey will address how gaps in economic tools and technical knowledge have limited policymakers’ ability to respond at the necessary scale and speed, and will outline principles for a forward-looking approach in which decarbonization strengthens competitiveness, reduces inequality, and enhances national security.
