The Penn Ph.D. and Postdoctoral community is invited to apply for postdoctoral and PhD research positions in spintronics and unconventional materials systems at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (Mainz University) in Germany.

The Wittmann Group at JGU’s Institute of Physics investigates spin-related phenomena in emerging materials systems and develops novel device architectures using cutting-edge experimental techniques. Current research focuses on:

• Hybrid molecular-magnetic systems for molecularly designed spin state control
• Antiferromagnets with non-volatility and ultrafast spin dynamics in the THz range

Please note: German language skills are not required at the time of application. Instruction and support will be provided to help the selected candidate prepare to learn German.

Eligibility Criteria:

• Ph.D. or equivalent experience in physics, materials science, or related fields (for postdoc roles)
• Background in magnetism, spintronics, nanofabrication, or spectroscopy preferred
• Strong interest in interdisciplinary and collaborative research

Position Details:

• Start date: Flexible
• Duration: Initial contract of 2 years, with extension possible
