Penn Postdocs in the News: Lucy March, Ph.D., explores music and technology in the classroom
Penn Postdoctoral Fellow Lucy March examines music, digital culture, and artificial intelligence through undergraduate teaching
PHILADELPHIA, PA — Dr. Lucy March, a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Pennsylvania’s Annenberg School for Communication, is bringing her research on media and digital culture into the undergraduate classroom through a course exploring how technology is transforming contemporary music.
Dr. March earned her Ph.D. in Media and Communication from Temple University and previously pursued graduate study in Mass Communications at the University of Florida. She earned her undergraduate degree from Davidson College, where she studied History and East Asian Studies.
At Penn, Dr. March is a postdoctoral fellow with the Center on Digital Culture and Society, where she maintains an active research program in media studies, contributes to the Center’s scholarly programming, and mentors graduate students.
In her course, “Music in the Digital Age,” Dr. March encourages students to consider how technological change is reshaping musical culture and the relationships among artists, audiences, and the platforms that connect them. Topics range from streaming and online communities to emerging questions surrounding artificial intelligence, giving students opportunities to examine broader questions about creativity, culture, and participation in an increasingly digital media environment.
Dr. March’s work highlights the breadth of contributions postdoctoral scholars make to Penn’s academic community, extending their research expertise into teaching, mentorship, and interdisciplinary exchange.
