Penn Postdoctoral Fellow Keshav Subramanian named 2025 Hartwell Fellow

Keshav Subramanian, Ph.D., a postdoctoral fellow in the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, has been selected as a 2025 Hartwell Fellow. Dr. Subramanian conducts research in the Department of Psychiatry under the mentorship of Matthew R. Hayes, Ph.D.

At Penn, Dr. Subramanian uses pharmacology and medicinal chemistry approaches to develop novel therapeutics for obesity and type 2 diabetes. His work in the Hayes Lab focuses on developing peptide-based therapeutics with translational potential, building on his longstanding interest in the neural and behavioral mechanisms that regulate feeding and energy balance.

Dr. Subramanian earned his Ph.D. in Neurosciences from the University of Southern California, where he conducted research in Scott Kanoski’s laboratory examining the neural pathways and behavioral mechanisms underlying the melanin-concentrating hormone system and food-motivated behavior. He previously earned undergraduate degrees in Chemistry and Molecular & Cell Biology with an emphasis in Neurobiology from the University of California, Berkeley.

His scientific training has been supported by both an NSF Graduate Research Fellowship and NIH training grants. His research has contributed to peer-reviewed publications in journals including Nature Communications, Neuron, and Cell Reports.

The Hartwell Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship provides two years of support for specialized postdoctoral training in biomedical research. Dr. Subramanian joins a longstanding community of Penn postdocs whose research and professional development have been supported by The Hartwell Foundation.

We are proud to celebrate Dr. Subramanian and his selection as a 2025 Hartwell Fellow.
